Syllitus sp.
The genus Syllitus Pascoe, 1859 is a Cerambycine genus (Calliprasonini) composed of small to very small species endemic to the Australian and Oriental region, with at least 27 described Australian species. Adults exude a strong odour from glands located on the prothorax, but this odour, which is presumed to be defensive, is not offensive to human senses. The elytra are typically bear pale-coloured costae. Adults feed mostly on the nectar of flowers of Myrtaceous plants, such as Eucalyptus, Acmena, Leptospermum spp. Photographed here is an unidentified pair in-cop as found in situ on Blackberry near Blacktown, Sydney. Blackberry is introduced in Australia. Not shown to be endangered.
Ceraegidon horrens Boisduval 1835
The genus Ceraegidon is a small Lamiine (Dorcadionini) genus with two species occurring in eastern Australia. The species illustrated here occurs in New South Wales and Victoria. Adults have pronotal and elytral protrubances, and are found infrequently in rainforests and wet sclerophyll and similar riverine forests. The larvae feed in decaying fallen timber. This specimen was found in the Blue Mountains, New South Wales. Another species, Ceraegidon dorrigoensis McKeown, occurs in the subtropical rainforests of the Dorrigo area in the mountains of northern New South Wales. Neither species has been shown to be endangered.
Distichocera macleayi Newman 1851
Illustrated is a female of this largest species in genus in which the males bear pectinate antennae. Adults occur mainly in rainforest though I have found a specimen of this difficult-to-find Cerambycine (Distachocerini) species on Leptospermum flowers a few kilometres from rainforest in Eucalyptus forest in the Blue Mountains. I once observed, in northern New South Wales, a gigantic specimen of ?Distachocera, either of this species, or of some magnificent hitherto undescribed species. One day I hope to find it again. The specimen illustrated here was found in the rainforests of the Illawarra Region, south of Sydney. Not shown to be endangered.
