Buprestidae Images : Australia
Switch off the lights or otherwise darken the room, then fire away. Images of ten beautiful species of live Australian Buprestidae are grouped, with comments, in three pages to reduce your download time should you suddenly need to go elsewhere. Pages of even more images will be added later. There are also some other species illustrated in Bupresting Around Sydney!. Note that any image of a buprestid in this web site that occurs around Sydney can be reached from its listing in the large file Checklist: Buprestidae of the Sydney Region, which can take a while to download.
To go to individual parts:
1. I was thinking of throwing in a few pairs of images of live Buprestidae in stereo. However, I find that few people can see these images effectively on-screen, its just too hard on the eyes. Best to see them in proper viewers and projected in 3D, which is absolutely fantastic.
2. Yes, once I get a decent video capture card, I should be able to add some short video clips of Australian Buprestidae alive on their native host plants. Feeding, looking for flowers, flying off, and generally having fun.
INFO:-
Checklist: Buprestidae of the Sydney Region
Be aware that this large 240kb or so document takes quite a while to download especially if you have a 33.6 or slower connection.
So don't click here unless you really need this. It provides a comprehensive up-to-date checklist of all 221 species of jewel beetles, in 35 genera, so far known to occur within the Sydney Region (as defined by the Sydney drainage basins), complete with district occurences and hyperlinks of some species to a photo. The checklist has heaps of relative hyperlinks to ease navigation from subfamily to subfamily, tribe to tribe, etc.Note: Please forgive any font variations you may see in the document as the conversion to a .html file does not appear to be perfect. To reduce download time, synonyms and publication details are excluded but I may add these at a later time as average modem speeds improve.
A glimpse into what its really like to go looking for buprestidae around Sydney. It's fairly generously illustrated, so please be prepared to wait awhile as you download.
